Assyrian Sunday at Thrissur - Kerala - India The Christian Assyrians or Aissors as they are called in Russian, are a nomadic nation. The title of Mar Shimun was Patriarch of the East and India. And the fact is that since the seventh century, the Aissors have been scattered over the entire world. They were in Central Asia, in Mongolia and Turkestan, in India on the Malabar coast and in China. Their Aramaic alphabet served as the basis for the Mongolian alphabet and for the Korean. The Aissors had a true mission, they have not lived in vain upon the earth. Now they wander the world shining shoes. [Viktor Shklovsky, A Sentimental Journey, 1923]
